How it works

When to book it
Late summer through early fall, before the first fire
Everyone calls in October when the weather turns, and by then the calendar is full. Booking in August or September gets you a date of your choosing and leaves time to fix anything the inspection turns up before you actually need the heat.

Flue height and access, whether it is an open fireplace or a stove with a liner, and how heavy the buildup is. Every job gets a written, all-inclusive number before we start — no add-ons at the end, and the quote holds for 30 days.

How often should a chimney be swept?
Once a year if you burn regularly, and after roughly a cord of wood through a stove. Weekend-only fireplaces can often stretch to every other year, but they should still be inspected annually.

What is creosote, and when is it dangerous?
It is the tar that condenses out of wood smoke. Stage one is a light dust that sweeps out easily. Stage three is a hard glaze that burns like fuel — that is the one that becomes a chimney fire, and it needs more than a brush.

Will it make a mess in my house?
No. We sweep from the roof down with a sealed vacuum running at the firebox and tarps over the hearth. There should be nothing to clean up after us.

Do you clean wood stove pipe as well as masonry chimneys?
Yes — stove pipe, insulated class-A chimney, and masonry flues with or without a liner. Tell us which one you have when you book so we bring the right brush.
